The Star motor was the first motor produced by Taycol, designed by Taylor, the engineering half of the partnership. It features a novel patented combined speed varying and reversing switch (see the review), and set Taycol on the path of creating a whole motor range. Surprisingly efficient, though it does have a high current drain. The switch needs to be hand-held, so is really more suited to a static application than a marine one..
The dual-purpose pulley/bar connector seems to have been a common item at that time. I have seen several other manufacturers using it...
